George Burmeister and CEG are currently involved in a number of
projects, including:

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program and State Energy Program (SEP): Support to Local, State and Tribal Governments Via the Lockheed-Martin Corporation on Behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s (EERE’s) Office of Weatherization and Intergovernmental Programs (OWIP), Mr. Burmeister works daily with, and serves as a primary national account manager to, the major Washington, DC-based local, state and tribal government associations, including, but limited to:

Mr. Burmeister helps lead communication issues and assists the staff and members of these associations stay current on relevant developments related to the Energy Efficiency and Conservation and Block Grant (EECBG) and the State Energy Program (SEP). He also provides energy efficiency and renewable energy policy advice to these same people. This work requires regular travel to, and a constant presence in, Washington, DC.

A National Sustainability Survey
At the request of the Public Technology Institute (PTI) and with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, Mr. Burmeister is the lead author and implementer of a national survey of cities and counties. The survey is designed to learn about the current status of sustainability related tools across seven major areas: energy efficiency, renewable energy, smart transportation, waste reduction and recycling, smart growth and planning, water efficiency and greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Energy Assurance and Energy Security Work with Local Governments
CEG is updating Energy Assurance Guidelines for Local Governments for the Public Technology Institute’s (PTI’s) Sustainability Council, which will subsequently be distributed to some of the nation’s 33,000 local governments. Mr. Burmeister is also working with the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities on training local governments and educating them about renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies related to energy assurance and critical infrastructure protection (CIP).

Zero Energy Homes (ZEHs) in the Southwestern United States
Mr. Burmeister helps the Building Industry Research Alliance (BIRA), a California-based, U.S. Department of Energy-funded Building America team build entire Zero Energy Home (ZEH) subdivisions in Utah, California, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. He is the national expert who negotiates the special benefits for the ZEH builders with the local and state governments. Mr. Burmeister also works directly for the New Mexico Governor’s state energy office on ZEH implementation and marketing issues.

How Big Can Energy Efficiency Be?: The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE)
At the request of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, Mr. Burmeister is writing a magazine article about the tremendous potential of energy efficiency by the year 2050, focusing on the huge gains made possible through new information and communication technologies (ICT). He is using research conducted by ACEEE and personal interviews of industry leaders for the article, which will is targeted to mainstream Americans.

Ice Energy
Mr. Burmeister is a formal Strategic Advisor to the Windsor, Colorado- based Ice Energy Company, an innovative company focused on energy storage and advanced cooling and refrigeration products and technologies. The company manufactures and markets a new Ice Storage Air Conditioner (ISAC) product line for residential and commercial applications that addresses the increasing demand for electricity. Ice Energy’s products shift the largest component of residential and commercial peak demand -- air conditioning -- from expensive “on-peak” times of the day to “off-peak” periods, when energy is less expensive and less polluting, generally.

4Tell Solutions, Inc. Sustainable Software
Mr. Burmeister is helping Portland, Maine-based 4Tell Solutions, Inc. with the market penetration of their sustainable governance software for local and state governments. 4Tell's  software helps local and state governments report metrics related to the ARRA (Obama's Stimulus Bill), track emissions and valuable buildings data. Mr. Burmeister helps the company gain access to key state decision makers in targeted local governments and states.

The National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO)
Mr. Burmeister is an Honorary State Energy Office Director

Mr. Burmeister was recognized by NASEO as an Honorary State Energy Office Director in 1992 after personally convincing three State Legislative bodies to abandon their efforts to remove their state energy offices, while simultaneously writing a book, Energy Management and Conservation (1992) which documented the successful energy programs managed by state energy offices since the 1973 oil embargo. He is very proud of his on-going relationship with NASEO and their members.

California Building Industry Association (CBIA)
In addition to sharing office space with the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) in Sacramento, Mr. Burmeister occasionally writes about energy efficiency and green building for their magazine, California Builder.

American Solar Energy Society (ASES)
As a former Policy Committee member and magazine editorial Board member, Mr. Burmeister continues to help ASES with substantive policy, and magazine-related reviews when requested.

Public Technology Institute (PTI)
Mr. Burmeister is a formal Advisor to, and contractor for, the Public
Technology Institute (PTI). As the only technology organization created by and for cities and counties, PTI works with a core network of leading local government officials – the PTI membership – to identify opportunities for technology research, share best practices, offer consultancies and pilot demonstrations, promote technology development initiatives and develop educational programming. Officials from PTI member governments participate in Councils and Forums that address specific technology areas. Through partnerships with industry, federal agencies and other governmental organizations, PTI shares the results of its activities and the expertise of its members with the broader audience of the more than 33,000 U.S. cities and counties.
